Accused killer nabbed, remanded after months on the run

After being on the run for months, 20-year-old Shane Samaroo called ‘Tanta Boy’, 20, a laborer of Rosignol Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) was today charged with stabbing and beating to death a Rosignol Man back in August.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court and was not required to enter a plea to the charge.
According to the police, Samaroo on August 19, 2021, at Bennet Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice (WBB), murdered Faroze Khan, called ‘Eggy’.
Samaroo was remanded to prison until December 20, 2021, when he will appear at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court.
Just yesterday, it was reported that ranks acting on information carried out a search at Mibicuri Backlands, Corentyne, Berbice, where they arrested Samaroo, who was at the time hiding with their mother. The woman is expected to be charged with harbouring him.
Reports are that on the day of the murder, Khan was beaten with a piece of wood and stabbed by Samaroo, while leaving a shop in his neighborhood.
This was just around 14:00 hrs when Khan was at a grocery shop at Bennet Dam, Rosignol when Samaroo entered and purchased a bottle of water, then left.
However, as Khan was leaving the shop, Samaroo rushed towards him with a piece of wood and dealt him several lashes about his body.
After Khan fell to the ground, Samaroo pulled out a knife from the waist of his pants and dealt him a stab.
The injured khan was picked up by the Police and escorted to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
