Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Sharon Hicks, who was allegedly caught in a sting operation collecting bribe from a contractor over the awarding of a contract, is set to be charged for Corrupt Transaction by an agent.
This was confirmed by Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, following advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution to charge Hicks.
Hicks was allegedly caught in a sting operation accepting a bribe from a contractor, who provides security services to the Ministry.
It was reported that back then, Ms. Hicks demanded money from the contractor over time from the owner of the company.
But as time went by, a son of the owner took over. The agreement stood but out of frustration, the man took the matter to the police, and a sting operation was launched. Hicks was later arrested for demanding money by menace and released on bail.
Ms. Hicks was sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
