On the evening of February 17, 2024, at approximately 21:08 hrs, the Fire Department received a call regarding a fire at Lot 239 Montrose, East Coast Demerara.

In a prompt response, water tenders 105, 85, along with water carrier 14 from the Campbellville Fire Station, Eccles Fire Station, and Fire Service Headquarters, rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival at 21:55 hrs, firefighters found a two-storey wooden and concrete building engulfed in flames.

The fire, caused by a slack connection of live faulty electrical wiring, quickly spread and ignited nearby combustible materials, resulting in significant damage to the structure and its contents.

Tragically, four individuals were left homeless as a result of the blaze.

Despite the challenges posed by the intensity of the fire, firefighters swiftly took action. Utilizing one jet working from WT# 85 tank supply, one jet working from WT# 105 tank supply, and two jets working from WC# 14 tank supply, they successfully extinguished the flames by 22:48 hrs.

The Guyana Fire Service reminds all residents to prioritize fire safety by ensuring proper electrical maintenance and being prepared for emergencies.

Ensure homes and businesses are equipped with fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.
