Former President, David Granger has filed a $2.6 billion Lawsuit against Guyana Times, Stabroek News, Kaieteur News, its owners, Editors in Chief, and Public Relations Consultant Christopher “Kit” Nascimento.
Mr. Granger through his Attorney Roydale Ford has listed Christopher Nascimento, Sharmain Grainger, Glenn Lall, National Media And Publishing Company Limited, Tusika Martin, Guyana Times Inc, Anand Persaud, Guyana Publication Inc as defenders in the matter.
The lawsuit is said to be related to a series of Opinion Letters that were published online and in the print media after the March 2020 Election by CHRISTOPHER “Kit” NASCIMENTO.
According to the document seen by this publication, Mr. Granger is contending that statements made by Mr. Nascimento remain untrue and some seek to derail his character.
Some are that “Granger is not innocent of an attempt to force a rigged election on Guyana”, “David Granger should do the honourable thing and avoid international condemnation”, “David Granger is without shame in continuing to defy the will of the people” among others.
Some associates, family members, and friends would have brought the publications to his attention. Mr. Granger has filed this proceeding seeking damages in $2.6 B, apologies, injunctions blocking that publication from publishing those letters, and some retraction.
The decision was made since the letter seeks to trouble the professional reputation, severely and irreparably damaging his standing.
The writ claims that Nascimento’s utterings affect Granger as a Politician and a leader in the community and country, lowering him in the estimation of right-thinking persons in News by those who publish such articles.
Mr. Granger noted that it has also damaged his reputation and exposed him to unwarranted hatred, ridicule, vilification, and contempt.
With such filing, Mr. Granger is expecting that matter will come up soon.
