The race to the Police Service Commission has started with four members being nominated by the Parliamentary Committee of Appointments to sit on the commission.
In a report released by the National Assembly, on the appointment of members to the Police Service Commission four names were released. They are businessmen Ernesto Choo-a-Fat and Hakeem Mohamed, Attorney Lloyd Mark Conway, and Bishop Patrick Anthony Findlay.
The President is allowed to appoint, four members of the commission after the nomination from the National Assembly and consultation with the Guyana Police Force, which includes, the Guyana Police Association, the Association of Former Members of the Guyana Police Force, and the National Community Policing Executive, etc.
The Guyana Police Association on November 16 submitted the names Choo-a-Fat, Conway, Mohamed, and Findlay.
The National Community Policing Executive submitted the name of Mr. Reshi Das, of the Administrator, Community Policing Group on November 17, while, the Association of Former Members of the Guyana Police Force submitted the name of Mr. Gavin Primo, D.S.M., Former Assistant Commissioner of Police November 24.
According to the report, the said nominations formed part of two months’ consultation process and the said names were agreed to on December 15th by the committee.
The President and Opposition Leader, following consultations, will then name a Chair of the Commission.
The last Chair of the said Commission was former retired Assistant Commissioner, Paul Slowe. His Chairmanship ended this year after the life of the commission was expired.
Coming up to the end, it was not without controversy as the commission was suspended by the President over allegations of misconduct in the office.

But the Commission has already announced the promotion of several officers, a promotion that the government is ignoring.
