New Jersey to honour Franklin ‘Bobby’ Vieira

Mayor Ted R. Green, the Mayor of East Orange; Assembly Woman, Britnee N. Timberlake representing the 34th Legislative District, East Orange City Council Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs, in Conjunction with Guyana America Heritage Foundation, will be hosting the Flag Raising Ceremony on June 10.
Organiser of the programme, Lady Ira Lewis, said, “It has been our tradition to celebrate the Guyana National Flag Day honouring the colours of which our freedom is capsulated.
“June 10 of each year is officially designated to commemorate such event. This is to give respect and reverence to our symbol of national sovereignty and solidarity. The Guyanese flag is the embodiment of all our country’s ideals, culture and tradition.”
Chief Executive Officer of 104.1 FM, Franklin ‘Bobby’ Vieira, will be one of the guests of honour at the event. “Your presence would definitely give motivation to the Guyanese,” the organisers said.
He will be awarded for his contribution to national life. Mr Vieira will receive a humanitarian award for his contribution to Guyanese at home and in the Diaspora.
For two decades he hosted a programme entitled ‘The world and the Caribbean’ in New York. And for the last 25 years he has been hosting the Christmas Show in Guyana. Mr Vieira conceptualized the first FM station in Guyana giving rise to 98.1 FM, the government-owned radio station.
He is also a philanthropist donating electronic items to scores of school children and hampers to the adult population.
The flag raising and award programme is scheduled to be held at 44 City Hall Plaza East Orange from 5:00 pm.
Several outstanding Guyanese as well as other nationals who had made an impact on the society will be honoured during the ceremony. There will be a VIP meet and greet in the City Hall Chambers. The flag raising ceremony commences at 6:00 pm.
