On Thursday police conducted a drug eradication exercise along the Berbice River and destroyed several marijuana farms.

The exercise spanned three different areas with ten fields and a total of 211,220 cannabis plants up to six feet in height.

Five camps were also discovered along with a drying area and a nursery with approximately 200,000 seedlings.

A search of the surrounding area also revealed a Maverick 12-gauge shotgun and 49 12-gauge cartridges.

The cannabis and camps were destroyed by fire.

The Guyana Police Force said the estimated weight of the dried and eradicated cannabis is 337,263 kilograms which has an estimated value of “several billion dollars”, based on approved pricing used.

The firearm, ammunition and a cellular phone which was also found, were taken into custody and lodged pending further investigation. No arrests have been made.
