Police hunt hit-and-run driver

The Police are on the hunt for a driver who hit and killed a 78-year-old Grove while failing to stop at an intersection.
According to reports, the incident occurred just around 4:50 hours on the street on Lamaha Street, Georgetown.
Subsequent to the incident, the dead woman was identified as 78-year-old Veronica Lewis, a resident of Grove, East Bank Demerara
Ms. Lewis was on the southern side of Lamaha Street in the vicinity of Waterloo Street when she was struck down by an unknown vehicle that failed to stop.
Ms. Lewis was left lying on the road surface with severe head and other injuries.
The Ambulance Service was contacted and arrived shortly on the scene. An EMT examined and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Ms. Lewis was later escorted by the police to Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour mortuary to await post mortem.
The hunt remains for the driver and the investigation continues.
