A sanitation worker died on Sunday while working at the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal.
The deceased is 29-year-old, Kevin Smith. Smith was reportedly using a freight lift in a section of the building when it crashed to the ground causing him to sustain several injuries. He was taken to the emergency room of the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died.
Smith worked for a private cleaning company which was doing work at the facility. He had taken some cleaning supplies to a co-worker on an upper floor and decided to use the lift to return to the ground floor.
The external metal lift is only used to transfer food and laundry between the different floors of the hospital.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
