The family of 19-year-old Simon Jones is now mourning his loss. He reportedly tried to swim across the Ekereku River, Upper Mazaruni River and is suspected to have drowned
Simon Jones of Victoria, East Coast Demerara was last seen on May 27, 2022, at Rock Landing, Ekereku River, Upper Mazaruni attempting to swim across the river, from the right bank to the left bank about 23:30 hours that night.
Some four days after, three miners traversing the river, observed the body of the deceased floating close to the left bank of the river
Police in the Division were informed, and subsequently retrieved the body. No marks of violence were seen on the body of the deceased.
A post mortem examination is expected to be done on the body to determine the possible cause of death.
