August was the deadliest month for COVID in Guyana

On Monday August 31, last, the Ministry of Health recorded 72 new cases of COVID-19. This brings Guyana’s total number of cases to 1,306. August has recorded 893 cases, the highest ever recorded and more than the numbers recorded over the past five months.

The death toll is now 41 with the last two deaths being reported on Monday morning. Twenty-one deaths occurred throughout the month of August.

A total of 718 persons have recovered leaving the number of active cases at 547.

Measures to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 are being put in place. The government has reinstated the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew from September 1 to September 30, 2020.

The reopening of Guyana’s international airports has been delayed and they will now remain closed until the end of September.

Persons are encouraged to wear masks in public spaces as failure to do so can lead to a punishment of fines or jail time.
