The Georgetown City Council has been forced to shut down operations at its Maternal And Child Welfare Clinics in Albouystown, Festival City, and South Road after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health will be doing contact tracing for all the workers that came in contact with the positive staff member. There may have also been several members of the public that came into contact with them.

City Mayor Ubraj Narine has said that the Ministry will also be asked to operate the centres while the staff members are under quarantine.

Earlier this week, the Council received reports that at least three vendors from the Stabroek Market area tested positive for COVID-19

Many vendors and shoppers have been flouting the guidelines even though there is a ‘no mask, no entry’ policy at the market. Several have already been charged and fined for failing to wear masks.

The change of the 12-hour curfew to the current 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. is also a burden for the City as more persons are out at a later time and not following the guidelines.

The 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew will be in effect until August 31.
