Shortly after 14:00 hours on Thursday one of the living quarters for the workers went up in flames. Manager of the operations at Teperu, Charles Kertzious, said that he was in the mines when he hears cries of “Fire, Fire”
He said that he immediately grabbed a fire extinguisher and raced to the scene. He said that by the time he reached there the roof was ablaze. He said that he summoned the fire truck which, with the support of a bucket brigade, extinguished the fire.
Not long after, he saw a man with burns about his body, He recognized the man as being one of the occupants of the house that burnt. Immediately, a team rushed the man to the Bartica Hospital. Today Kertzious said that he learned that the man took his own discharge.
The incident is being investigated by the Bartica Police and the Bartica Fire Service.
