As the Government forges ahead to have a safe environment with little contraction of the deadly COVID-19 Virus, the Ministry of Health will in the future demand all travelers being fully vaccinated before entry.
This is according to the Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, who said by way of following several protocols introduced by Caricom to its member countries, the Government will look to impose the restrictions of having persons entering Guyana be fully vaccinated and also to have a negative PCR Test.
“We had been having discussions about changing our entry regulation, meaning persons traveling into Guyana or passing through Guyana. And, more recently we have been guided by some decision that has been taken by Caricom.
“At that level, there have been two principal things that most countries in CARICOM will now require; one is that a traveler must produce a negative PCR and secondly, they also must produce proof of vaccination.
“So, we are moving to honor that decision that CARICOM has instituted and you will see some changes as we go forward. That will be for all travelers coming to Guyana,” Minister Anthony explained.
Already, the Government in recent times has changed travelling measures, firstly against Trinidad and Tobago nationals coming to Guyana, in which travelers will have to show that they are fully vaccinated before Guyana.
That move has come with some level of criticism since the Government has not expressed its reason for such action in which only Trinidad and Tobago Nationals are not allowed for now to enter Guyana without being fully vaccinated.
Minister Anthony has, however, said that in the coming days there will be a more in-depth level of explanation.
