Spain accredits new Ambassador to Guyana

Guyana has accepted the letters of credence from Spain’s new Ambassador to Guyana, Fernando Nogales Alvarez, as the two countries seek to continue on the road of mutual benefits.
President, Irfaan Ali accepted the Letters of Credence from the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Guyana, Fernando Nogales Alvarez during a simple ceremony at the Office of the President on Tuesday.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Alvarez noted that the presence of the Embassy in Guyana and its Ambassador signals the fact that his country seeks to strengthen friendship and cooperation for the future with Guyana.
Mr. Alvarez said that it also forms part of his countries aimed at having greater understanding and dialogue for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Speaking specifically on the issues on areas of development between Guyana and Spain, Mr. Alvarez said that his country and Guyana will use the opportunities to develop the business ties.
Mr. Alvarez said that knowing Guyana, Spain and the rest of the world are facing serious issues with the pandemic. There is also space in which shared experience and the way forward between the countries can be looked at.

President Ali congratulated the new Ambassador. He said that the two countries continue to share mutual values that have shaped the relationship.
President Ali added that will those values, the relationship will continue to be stronger, especially at a time of dealing with a COVID-19 Pandemic.
“The Kingdom of Spain prides itself on the principles of equality and inclusiveness. This is increasingly being shown through your response to the global challenges the COVID-19 Pandemic has had on vulnerable nations.
“Spain’s contribution of vaccines to these nations, including Guyana, accords with my Government’s view of vaccine diplomacy whether developed or underdeveloped. All must be able to access vaccine,” President Ali said.
Ali also acknowledged Spain’s interest in the Caribbean. The Government of Guyana will continue to advocate for the Governments of CARICOM to have a stronger relationship with Spain.
“Guyana has recognized Spain’s particular interest in the CARICOM Regions through the Spain-CARICOM co-operation mechanism. Guyana continues to advocate for closer collaboration with Spain and CARICOM to forge a strong connection in the region, which will indeed see the further bridging of our two continents.”
The President insisted that Guyana will continue to share good relations with Spain as the country seeks to continue to look forward to co-operation in mutual areas such as agriculture, climate change, technology, tourism and investment.
