Police are reporting a fatal accident which occurred on Sunday August 28, 2022 about 17:50hrs on the Berbice River Bridge Access Road, East Canje, Berbice.
It involved motorcar # PPP 2020 driven by 35-year-old police sergeant Quacy Rose of Tactical Services Unit Georgetown and motorcycle # CL 6820 owned and driven by 43-year-old Aubrey Sears of lot 298 No. 9 Village West Coast Berbice.
Enquiries disclosed that motorcar # PPP 2020 was proceeding east along the northern drive lane at a fast rate of speed while the driver of motorcycle # CL 6802 was proceeding west along the Southern drive lane at a fast rate of speed.
The driver of the motorcar alleged that the motorcyclist rode into his path and collided with the front right side of his vehicle.
As a result of the collision the motorcyclist fell onto the said car bonnet then onto the front windscreen before landing on the road surface and finally ending up onto the southern grass parapet. He sustained injuries about his body.
He was pick up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited persons and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was pronounce dead on arrival.
The body is lying at the Arokium Funeral Parlour awaiting post mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of motor car PPP 2020 and there was no alcohol recorded. Notice of intended prosecution was served on the driver of motorcar who remains in custody assisting with further investigations.
And at Wales, WBD, traffic police are reporting a fatal incident which occurred on Sunday 28th August 2022 about 02:20hrs at Clarke’s Turn, Wales, West Bank Demerara.
It involved motorcycle CL 5663 allegedly driven by a male of African descent (name, age and address unknown). There was a 45-year-old pillion rider, Adrian Nelson, of lot 18 Pouderoyen, WBD.
The pillion rider claimed that he knew the deceased from Crane WBD. He said that they were at a dance in Wales, West Bank Demerara and he asked the now dead rider for a drop home.
He told police that while they were proceeding along the western side of the road in the vicinity of Clarke’s Turn Wales West Bank Demerara (which is a steep turn) the driver who was proceeding at a fast rate, lost control and ended up riding into the trench.
The pillion rider said that he jumped off the motorcycle as it was heading into the trench.
Both persons were picked up in a conscious state by police and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where the driver was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The pillion rider was admitted at the said institution suffering from a fractured leg. He was in a stable condition.
The body of the deceased man is lying at the West Demerara Regional Hospital’s mortuary waiting to be identified.
