Former Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan was earlier today arrested on allegations of misconduct in public and was going charged but later collapsed at the Sparendaam police station and had to be transported to the Plaisance Health Centre.
Just this morning, the Former Minister was arrested questioned by the Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU) over allegations of misconduct in public office.
The former Minister was later arrested and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, where he was expected to charge.
In police custody, Mr. Jordan complained of feeling unwell. He later collapsed and had to be rushed to the health center.
As such, he was later referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital and was told to he needed to be transported via an ambulance.
The request was, however, denied by SOCU Agents, who said that he should be transported back to the office, where he would be later transported to the hospital.
At the office, Lawyers, Senior Counsel, Roysdale Forde, and Darren Wade asked that the questioning be discontinued due to the situation of Mr. Jordan and requested that he immediately be transported to a hospital.
Mr. Jordan was released on his own recognisance and was later transported to a private health facility, where he was admitted to a patient.
Speaking on the issue, Attorney Forde said that this forms part of the Government’s plan to dismantle the Opposition even on charges with no basis.
“This is a highly political situation; this is the PPP trying to take control of the processes of the police force; it is a political act. There is no substance to it; there is no basis for the charges or the allegation being put to Mr. Jordan.”
He added that this is so because the police force has failed in the investigation.
“The police have failed during the investigation and the interview to identify one single piece of evidence, which implicates Mr. Jordan in any wrongdoings. They failed to establish that the transactions on which the investigation centers have any taint of illegality, whatsoever,” Ford added.
Ford said that this just clearly shows the intention of the PPP to harass members of the Opposition.
